However, over almost 200,000 British nationals visited Kenya in 2010 with only 81 of them needing to seek British consul assistance so making clear the trouble-free holidays and visits most tourists do have. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued warnings to travellers about visiting Thailand at present. There has been heavy rain across the country leading to flash floods and mudslides and causing rivers to break their banks. The worst areas are the north, north east and central Thailand, and Bangkok itself is now likely to be affected, which may affect electricity and water supplies.

A volcanic eruption at sea five miles south of La Restinga on El Hierro on Saturday has been confirmed. Though El Hierro has had around 9,600 earthquakes since mid July this year caused by magma activity underneath the island and the Saturday eruption is the first recorded in spain since the Teneguia volcano appeared on Las Palma in 1971.

The current major street demonstrations have mean that the Foreign and Community Office are advising against travel to Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Suez and advise all British nationals currently in these areas to leave by commercial means, though this does not affect transits through Cairo airport, where there may be delays and disruptions to flight schedules.

The FCO has advised tourists to take particular care when diving or snorkelling in Red Sea resorts after a number of attacks by a shark on divers in the waters off Sharm-el-Sheikh. These kinds of shark attacks in Red Sea are very rare, and this is an unusual occurrence, and it is suggested that a particular oceanic white tip shark rogue shark is to blame.
