About BerlinBerlin, the largest and capital city of Germany is also one of the 16 states of the Federal Republic of Germany. It has a population of just under 5 million, including its metropolitan area and in addition to its historical importance in the country’s recent development, from World War Two to the Fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, it is also now synonymous with nightlife, clubbing, electronic music and street art. Following extensive damage in the Second World War, and especially following reunification, the city has seen a great deal of reconstruction and its architecture is varied, but there is a huge amount to see and do here. There are several main districts of the city, with Mitte being the historic centre of Berlin and the focal point of the newer city centre, There are numerous cafes, restaurants, clubs, galleries and museums here. The City West is home to excellent shopping, restaurant and hotel facilities with plenty of options for under £100 per night), whilst East Central is where the young arty types reside, so here are dozens of cafes, bars and clubs. |
