About FuerteventuraWith an area of 640 square miles and a population of 75,000, Fuerteventura is the second largest of the seven Spanish Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Over the centuries the island has seen many peoples and occupants. Its capital is Puerto del Rosario, on the eastern seaboard, and it is the least populated of the islands. Exploring the length (60 miles) and breadth (about 18 miles) of this semi-desert island will take you to some 150 beaches along the coastline - some of them fine white sand, others volcanic shingle - and inland up to 2,500 ft on Mt Jandia. You might well want to travel independently, and you can hire a car from €105 a week. |
