Gran Canaria GuideAs you wander through the narrow streets, you will find the ancient Catedral de Santa Ana, the Palacio Episcopal and a wealth of museums. Dotted along the streets are small traditional shops and in the centre is the main square - Plaza de Santa Ana.
Puerto de La Luz is the main harbour and is a lovely place to be, especially in the evenings as the sun is setting, with its many cafes and tapas bars.
The beaches in Gran Canaria give you the chance to relax and sunbathe while offering a variety of water sports also. To the south of the island, Playa del Ingles gets very busy in the tourist season, while further along the coast, the white sandy beaches of Maspalomas provide the chance to go camel-riding. There are also quieter locations to visit – Puerto Mogan, is a small picturesque village and a protected beach, while in Puerto Rico you can take a fishing cruise, wander around the marina enjoying the peaceful surroundings or stopping at one of the many restaurants along the harbour.

About Gran CanariaGran Canaria is one of the islands belonging to the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Only 3 miles from the coast of Africa.
The capital of the island is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. There are many hotels and apartments in the town catering for every budget, and while the town is maybe best known for its lively night-life, what tourists may not realise is that it was founded way back in 1478 and is steeped in history; parts of it being UNESCO World Heritage sites. The district of Vegueta is home to some of the oldest buildings on the island. |
