Hohhot GuideThere are many grasslands to choose from around the area, but Xilamuren in particular is situated next to the river and is home to a Lama temple dating back to the Qing dynasty. While there, you can experience the tranquillity of the roaming herds and flocks of birds, while in the summertime, the Nadam Festival takes place, providing visitors with a unique insight into the Mongolian culture with plenty of dancing, cuisine and games.

Dazhao Temple (or the silver temple) is the oldest Lama Buddhist temple in inner Mongolia and was built circa. 1580. It houses a collection of Buddhist scriptures and relics and is home to a 400 year-old statue of Sakyamuni built mostly from silver.
3. Xilituzhao Palace – very close to the Dazhao temple, the palace dates back to the 13th Century. The official residence of the Living Buddha, the temple has been extended over the centuries and is an impressive structure, it remains an active temple for worship and festivals.
4. Five Pagoda Temple – with over 1,500 Buddha carvings covering the exterior walls, this pagoda (also known as the “Precious Pagoda of the Buddhist Relics of the Diamond Throne”) was completed in 1732, and stands among relics of courtyard homes near to Qingcheng Park.
Hohhot is a modern day city, catering for both business and tourism with a large number of hotels and shopping facilities available and a network of trains and taxis to help you find your way around the city.
It is served by the Hohhot Baita International Airport which is Inner Mongolia’s main airport, located approximately 1 hour away from the city centre. You can also catch an overnight train from Beijing. |

About HohhotHohhot, literally means “Green City” in Mongolian. Surrounded by grasslands, Hohhot is located in northern China between the Yinshan Mountain and the Yellow River and is the capital city of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous region. The climate in Hohhot is continental with 4 seasons and fairly cold winters.
