York GuideThe rivers are now merely used for leisurely purpose with activities ranging from sailing to cruises. With excellent connections to other major cities, York is an ideal place to be based for visiting nearby areas such as the Yorkshire Dales or Scarborough. Sightseeing is a must while in York.
The stone walls that surround the city are the longest intact medieval town walls in all of England and stretch for two miles. York is particularly famous for The York Minster, a beautiful gothic cathedral which is infact the largest in all Northern Europe and thought to be one of the greatest in the world by many of its visitors. A walk around the cathedral will easily take up half a day, but with stunning views from the tower it is well worth anyone’s time.
Entry to the Minster, Undercroft, Treasury and Crypt is priced at £9. 00 for adults and children under 16 are free. Entry to the tower is extra with a cost of £5.
50 for adults and £3. 50 for children aged 8-16. York has well over 200 pubs with a mixture of traditional real ale and modern trendy bars, most of which all serve reasonably priced food and drink.
The city is also home to countless restaurants with a wide variety of choice. Italian and Indian restaurants are seemingly very popular and in high numbers here. Hotels within this enchanted city tend to cover a broad scope from international hotels to youth hostels, however if low budget accommodation is sort, a visit should be considered outside of the peak season.

About YorkJust two hours north of London is the medieval and historic walled cathedral city of York. A place of contrast where old meets new and is rich in heritage with a history that goes back to before Roman times. Within the 13th century walls lie magnificent architecture surrounded by twee cobbled streets. The thriving modern city complete with an abundance of newly built shopping areas is located on a confluence of two rivers, the Ouse and the Foss. In medieval times York became an important trade centre for textiles thanks to the river Ouse. |
