Brighton & Hove GuideThis dazzling Palace helped to establish Brighton as a major tourist destination and assisted in turning this once small town into a fashionable resort. Queen Victoria sold the pavilion to the town of Brighton in 1850. It houses original furniture and works of art lent by the Queen.
Tours are available for free for all tourists. Brighton Pier is a late-Victorian pier built in 1899. The pier has a range of amusement arcades, dining and entertainment options and fairground rides to suit the needs of today’s modern tourists.
The Sea life centre is located near the pier and is full of sharks and other interesting marine life. It was originally built in 1872 as a menagerie and it was turned into an aquarium in 1929. Don’t miss the shopping experience of the Lanes- an eclectic maze of antique, independent and speciality shops.
Enjoy and revel in the quaint atmosphere. The Lanes were the original streets of the village of Brighthelmstone. If you like more contemporary shops then Brighton Marina will meet all your entertainment and shopping needs.
It is a complex that offers a fantastic range of designer outlet shops, restaurants, bars, a cinema, bowling alley and nightclubs. Brighton is also very close to the entertainment and attractions of London. After a £10 million redevelopment plan Brighton Museum and Art gallery is now an extremely popular visitor attraction drawing in large numbers of tourists and people interested in the history of this fascinating city.
Brighton possesses a comprehensive range of accommodation from small bed and breakfasts to large traditional 4 star hotels and luxury boutique accommodation. Premier Inn provides reasonable accommodation in the centre of Brighton which is just a small walk from the Royal Pavilion. Hotels in the mid-range category include the Hotel du Vin and the Old Ship Hotel, which was built in 1559.
Brighton De Vere Grand is Brighton's only 5 star hotel and overlooks the seafront. This is a striking and massive seaside hotel with an excellent reputation and world class service. |
