About LondonLondon is the capital city of both England and the United Kingdom, and as well as being the largest city in the UK, is also the largest city in the European Union, with 8 million within the main city centre and an additional 6 million in the wider metropolitan area. London really is one of the world’s greatest cities and remains an important global influence in culture, art, fashion, media, finance and politics and as Samuel Johnson said in 1777 “when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life” -though Mr Johnson had never had the pleasure of the Tube (underground) at rush hour!
London is noisy, busy, vibrant and multicultural but is a hotbed for energy and ideas. Its perfect for a weekend break, there is also plenty for the family to do and there are a glut of iconic landmarks which bring millions of visitors to London each year including Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, St Pauls Cathedral, The Globe Theatre, The Tower of London, the Tate Modern Gallery, the London Eye and the British Museum. Do take in London’s parks too - Hyde Park and the neighbouring Kensington Gardens are a great breath of fresh air in central London. Regents Park just to the north of central London houses some beautiful manicured gardens as well as an open-air theatre and Zoo. |
