Edinburgh Guide
The castle rock has acted as a stronghold to the city for approximately 3,000 years; in fact bronze-age remains have been found here which are believed to date back to 900BC. Through the centuries, Kings and Queens have called it home and today it protects the Scottish crown jewels. The most popular tourist attraction in the city, this spectacular piece of history is really worth a visit.
Guided tours are available around the old town of Edinburgh, where visitors can view the architectural buildings and churches on walks which last between 2 and 4 hours.
A visit to Edinburgh would not be complete without a trip to the zoo for the children. Open every day of the year this important education and conservation centre has been in operation since 1913.
Today it houses over 1,000 animals and provides a variety of shows and attractions for its visitors.
There are plenty of hotels in and around Edinburgh, though as you would expect in any capital city, the prices tend to be fairly high. Depending on your requirements, it may be an idea to stay just outside of Edinburgh in one of the smaller towns where hotel accommodation may be slightly less expensive, and then make use of the regular trains and buses which come and go to and from the city.
