Salou GuideSalou is a family favourite mainly due to PortAventura, a theme park owned by Universal Studios which is situated close to Salou. A mini road train runs to and from the park all day. You probably need two days at least to do everything in the park and remember in high season the queues will be massive.
Dragon Khan is one of the most popular rides this is a white-knuckle ride with eight 360-degree loop the loops! This ride dominates the skyline of the park as it sprawls everywhere! La Pineda is a newer resort six miles north of Salou which is an aquarium water park really popular with children. Apart from theme parks there are lots of fascinating places of interest in this area. The Benedictine Monastery at Montserrat is high in the mountains and has attracted pilgrims for years.
The Salvador Museum in Figueres is another popular day trip from Salou. You can view some of this remarkable artist’s most important works. Salou is 50 miles west of Barcelona and this could definitely be one of your day trips.
Barcelona is a beautiful and very striking city with lots to see. From the Nou Camp football stadium to the beautiful fountains, Gothic Cathedral and Gaudi architecture there is plenty to explore. Las Ramblas is a fascinating place to sit, relax, drink a cool drink and people watch! Street cafes and flower stalls adorn each side of this tree-lined avenue so you will have plenty of choice.
Also on this cosmopolitan street you will find an eclectic mix of bars and restaurants which serve a mixture of national and international delicacies. There are many choices of hotels in this town that will suit a variety of budgets. The 3 star Best Club Cap Salou and H10 Europa Park are mid-range accommodations.
Budget options include Apartamentos Los peces and International II Aparthotel. If you want luxury on your stay the 4 star H10 Delfin Park is recommended and Hotel Dorada Palace is only 500 metres from the beach. |

About SalouSalou is located in the province of Tarragona in Catalonia Spain. Salou was first used as a port by the Greeks and Romans. It is situated on Costa Dorada's 'golden coast' nicknamed this due to all the beaches facing to the south-east and being warm and golden. Salou promenade runs adjacent to the Llevant Beach. The resort is cocooned by the Catalonian Mountains which makes the Mediterranean climate very stable. |
