Barcelona GuideWhilst many couples and independent travellers choose Barcelona as a city break, its also a great place to take the kids too as children are warmly welcomed.
Tapas bars and restaurants are plentiful in Barcelona, though do expect to pay a little more if you choose to eat around La Rambla (the main tourist street and collection of side streets La Ramblas). There are plenty of cheap snack options for around £5 per head and hundreds of options for meals of all cuisines up to around £20 going up to £50 per head.
For a splurge there are Michelin star restaurants too. Be aware that many local restaurants may be closed during siesta time roughly 4pm – 8pm. There is accommodation available for all budgets too, though check the location before you book – if just here for a few days, you probably want to be as central as possible.
There are plenty of 2-3 star hotels at around £100 per night; many of the large international chains are here and there are a couple of dozen 5 star hotels which have rooms up to £600+ per night but its worth checking dates before you travel as there are great off-season deals. |

About BarcelonaBarcelona, Spain’s second largest city is the capital of Catalonia and is home to around 2 million people. It has a history dating back over 2,000 years and in more recent times, obtained further international recognition by hosting the 1992 Olympic Games which saw Barcelona revitalized and introduced millions of new tourists to this beautiful coastal city.Barcelona is home to possibly Europe’s most well-preserved Gothic Quarter and Gaudi’s quirky architecture permeates the city - the steep walk up to his Parc Guell is a must - and galleries rightly highlight local genius talents Miro and Picasso. One of the major delights of Barcelona is simply walking around and discovering the city by foot, checking out the many markets, galleries, churches and museums. The centre of town, around the Ciutat Vella (old town), is the focus for many visitors looking for a taste of the city, whilst a trip out to the Barceloneta district and its beaches is a must when the weather is warm (which it is for most of the year). |
