An important historic event took place at the port during 1229 when the fleet of James I of Aragon set sail from Salou to conquer the Balearic islands, creating the Kingdom of Majorca and then in 1286 Minorca.
Salou has a total of thirty four Blue Flag beaches which are brilliant for watersports and windsurfing, while boat trips can also be arranged on the main beach called the Llevant Beach.
The city has numerous accommodation ranging from the 2 star Hotel Tolosa located a 5-minute walk from Salou Beach. While there is also the option of the Villas Cumbres these Mediterranean villas are just 500 metres from the beach at Cap Salou and have an outdoor pool and gardens.
Alternatively, the 4 star Medplaya PirĂ¡mide Salou is set 600 metres from the beach, offering fabulous views of the Mediterranean sea.
