The village itself is steeped in history, and has been populated since the Bronze Age at around 2000BC. While under Greek dominion it was called Murgis-Akra and when the name became Latinized it was Moxacar. Then the North African Islamic Moors in the early 8th century changed it slightly to Muxacra, and it finally became the name it has today, Mojácar.
As you would expect the area has a wealth of accommodation to offer lodging.
For a good family run traditional 2 star hotel situated opposite Mojácar’s Cantal Beach, why not try the beautiful white building of Hotel Virgen Del Mar. Alternatively for a spot of luxury, the 4 star Parador de Mojácar offers some beautiful sea views, an outdoor terrace with palm trees and a pool. It’s also situated approximately a mile away from the main town, so a nice walk to enjoy the history of the place can be enjoyed after the sun goes down.
