For those who like a bit of history, Fuengirola’s Santa Fe de los Boliches district is the site of excavations of a major Roman villa and a suite of Roman baths.
On a hill overlooking Fuengirola are the walls and towers of a Moorish castle. It was here that the Moors made the discovery of a star known as Canopus, known in Arabic as Sohail, hence this is Sohail Castle.
Fuengirola has a vast choice of hotels and other accommodation.
Overlooking the port is the 4-star Hotel Las Palmeras has 410 rooms, an outdoor pool a restaurant and a café. The 3-star Las Rampas is super-handy for both the station and the beach, and is in a superb Andalucían style. The 3-star Pyr Fuengirola Apartments are right by the beach and the marina, has a pool that’s heated in winter. The 2-star Hotel Augur is only 150 m from the beach, free Wifi and free breakfast.
For a good night’s sleep, the 2-star Hostal Galan is in the heart of Fuengirola but in a quiet pedestrian street.
