For those into sports in and near the sea, there is canoeing and beach volleyball. Inland, Montnegre offers lots of forest trails and opportunités for mountain biking.
The leafy Manuel Puigvert Promenade by the beach, is pleasant during the day, but really comes to life after dark when the Calella nightlife gets underway. On the café terraces you might try a ‘cremat’, a flamed up cocktail of dar rum, coffee, cinnamon and sugar.
The Gelpi Bar, in the Calle Voltes, does an especially nice one.
For some nice dining in Calella, for good seafood try the Hogar Gallego in the Calle Animes, or a good daily range at the Can Miguel. For tapas or chips on a cool terrace, try the Café-Bar Top.
Among the bars, the White Horse, the Beach Boys and the D’Artiganan are all popular with British people.
On the coast road ‘La Guitarra’ has good local live jazz.
Calella has a profusion of hotels, apartments and campsites. The 4-star Palmeras offers good service and has a pool. The sizeable 3-star President Hotel has a pool and is 500 m from the centre of Calella.
The 3-star Balmes is a beach hotel with a pool. Bed and breakfasts include the Pension El Pekinaire and the Calella Park. For self-catering, the Apartamentos Casablanca Calella is a complex of 15 units, with a pool and hotel services laid on. The Apartamentos Codina are 2 minutes from the beach.
Campsites that are very handy for the beach include El Far and Roca Grossa.
