They have since fallen into disrepair but are now being renovated by the locals. The area is dotted with picturesque sand coves occupied by little tavernas which serve good local food both day and night as well as renting out sunbeds and parasols. The food and drink here are very cheap which makes it very popular with the locals from the surrounding areas. There are very few shops in Kalithea as Rhodes Town is close by and good transport links make it very easy to get there.
There are many watersports on offer such as snorkelling and scuba-diving; pedaloes and jet skis are also available for hire. The area has very clear waters and it is a great opportunity to explore the vast marine life from shoals of fish, or if you are lucky come face to face with the dolphins. Kalithea does not have a lively nightlife scene and only has a few bars and tavernas although these are often open late into the night. Rhodes Town has a large variety of clubs and bars offering cocktails and dancing.
