Be sure to travel directly south of Luxor to Aswan and the amazing Temple of Isis on Agilkia Island. Take in the Aswan Dam and the Temple of Ramses while there and stop off on Elephant Island. Luxor has been built over the ancient city of Thebes and, just close to the Nile is the beautiful Temple of Luxor, dating back to 1353. Be sure to see the “Mummification Museum” which is not at all depressing, just off the beaten track and where you’ll learn all of the secrets of the ancient pharaohs.

Situated on the east bank of the Nile, you’ll find the 5-star Sonesta St George Luxor Hotel or the Hilton. A good budget option might be the authentic Mara House Hotel or if you want to save some cash try the “Boomerang Hotel on Mohamed Farid Street.
