There are many things to do in Puerto Plata and scuba diving amongst the warm shallow reefs is just one. There are many golf courses, one being the famous Robert Trent Jones Course not to mention windsurfing, kite boarding and deep sea fishing. There are plenty of marvelous local shops and markets as well as the newly commercial shopping malls. The family might enjoy Ocean World where there is the opportunity to swim with dolphins and later in the evening a wealth of bars, clubs, casinos and shows will keep you entertained.
With a great variety of food and drink available at all the cafes and restaurants there is a great chance to try local delicacies. The Vh Gran Ventana Beach Resort is an all inclusive holiday that caters for all people and is good value for money as it includes all food, drink, entertainment tips and taxes as does the Barcelo Puerto Plata. The Casa Colonial Beach spa, slightly more expensive and has good reviews. For adults only try the Blue Bay Villas, again all inclusive and situated on a fantastic long beach, perfect for honeymoons.
There is a good mix of luxury boutique hotels where privacy is key and more sport orientated hotels.
