Tennessee has played a major role in the development of rock and roll; it is home to Sun Records which are famous for artists such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison.
Tennessee's major export industries are tourism, agriculture and manufacturing.
Tobacco, cotton and soy beans are top exports. The Smoky mountains National Park cover's 800 square miles and is 95% forest, it has diverse animal and plant life and is one of the largest protected areas. The park attracts tourists throughout the whole year where the many artificial lakes are used for numerous water sports. Memphis is the largest city in Tennessee and in 1968 a great tragedy occurred when Martin Luther King the great human rights leader was assassinated, this event in history birthed the Lorraine Hotel which is Americas civil rights museum.
Tennessee has so many beaches you will never become bored, one of them being Parksville beach which although rather quiet it is a fine example with beautiful golden sand and shining water. If you are a camping enthusiast then you can pitch your tent at the nearby camp-site which offers relaxing facilities for those who want to sample the quiet life. The Appalachian Mountains run from the tip of Tennessee to the Great Smoky Mountains, tucked along the length of the mountain chain are many outdoor recreation pursuits and interesting small towns each with its own fascinating history and culture. The Mississippi River is the second largest river in America, stretching 2320 miles it flows southwards down to the Gulf of Mexico.
There is an extravagant 18 gallery museum showing the natural culture of the river with over 5000 artefacts telling the story of early settlements, riverboats and barges. Travel the river on the La Crosse Queen which is a modern day replica of the old paddle wheel riverboats and take in the scenic views, it is an experience not to be missed. Tennessee has some of the hottest night life with many bars, nightclubs and music venues. Whether you are interested in dinner and theatre, room service and a movie or dancing to the early hours, the choice is yours.
Rest assured you will certainly not forget your stay. There is a temperate climate here in Tennessee with warm summers and mild winters; however, it can succumb to a wide range of unpredictable climate conditions. Tennessee is an easy state to travel around in. If you are hiring a car be careful as roads can become very congested.
It is recommended that you use public transport as it is safe and reliable and taxis are very reasonably priced.
