Known as the silver state Nevada is the 7th largest state in the United States and lies between California and Utah. The two major cities in Nevada are Las Vegas and Reno which are heavily dependant on tourism and therefore are very welcoming to tourists.Nevada's first inhabitants arrived about 12,000 years ago they were mostly fishermen and hunter gatherers.

The first permanent white settlers were the Mormons who arrived around 1850 in a place which is now known as Western Nevada. In the more modern times Indian groups such as Southern Paiute, Northern Paiute, Shoshoni, and Washo inhabited the state and the first explorer was a Spanish priest named Francisco Garces. Nevada lives up to its name in the winter months, when around 300 inches of snow grace the 18 top class ski resorts, at the famous Lake Tahoe. It has more than24, 000 acres of alpine and Nordic skiing.

You can also find winter ski resorts in the Ruby Mountains in Elko. Nevada is certainly your winter sun, fun destination. Nevada boasts over 300 days of glorious sunshine a year, making it a place that you certainly wont get bored in as the public lands have a plethora of outdoor activities ranging from hiking and biking to fishing and hunting. If the outdoor life is not for your thing then the indoor attractions will not disappoint.

Nevada is strewn with many historic landmarks, cultural experiences and relaxing spas. Travel to Virginia City which is the countries largest historic landmark which virtually appeared overnight when silver was discovered. It was also here that Samuel Clemen first wrote under his pen name 'Mark Twain’, it is considered by many locals to be his birthplace. Nevada offers numerous night time events and shows; it is one of the world’s most buzzing night-life venues.

Las Vegas is the gambling capital of the world and probably the easiest place to get married. It is famous for its restaurants which cater for every palate, from seven course gourmet meals to simple hamburgers. Nevada has many beach resorts one of them being Nevada Beach in Lake Tahoe, It is a picturesque wide open sandy beach with fabulous views of the mountains, perfect for anyone who wants to spread out and relax. Nevada's shopping options are endless, from quaint small town shops to major malls and outlets.

Only in Nevada can you buy cowboy boots to stilettos and antiques to contemporary pieces all in on trip. The climate in Nevada is sunny and dry but has a wide variation of daily temperatures. It is the driest state in America however snowfall is abundant in the mountains. Nevada has good reliable bus and train networks The major highways are relatively easy to navigate but they can become very congested.
