The peaceful holiday resort is an ideal destination for families and couples who are looking for a slower pace of life. The northern part of the island has a rougher coast which is home to a string of smaller fishing villages here you will experience the more traditional way of life.
The largest and oldest town is Mao which is a walled town situated at the end of an enormous harbour, it has some impressive architectural features and plays host to a number of festivals and fiestas. Menorca has a famous 18th century Gin Distillery which can be found on the Moll de Ponent harbour front, a day visit will reveal magnificent copper stills bubbling over with the popular spirit which is combined with Juniper berries to produce the distinctive Menorca Gin. Menorca has many beautiful natural parks with stunning gardens filled with colourful flower beds during the summer months they are frequently used to stage musical performances. Menorca has it fair share of beautiful coastline each beach usually offers more than enough facilities to please any holiday maker.
During the summer some of the beaches can get a little manic so be prepared to get there early and don't forget that topless bathing is totally acceptable here. Son Bou beach is 3km long and probably the most popular on the island due to its safe calm swimming waters and fine golden sand. Lifeguards patrol the area in the peak months making it a safe family beach where you can sit back and relax. Water sport facilities are very good here, windsurfing being the most popular choice closely followed by scuba diving which you can experience on one of the many boat trips available.
Menorca has a wide selection of nightspots ranging from large disco venues to smaller Spanish tapas bars which are just waiting to be explored. There is entertainment to suit everyone however if you choose to opt for a more tranquil evening then try one of the lovely piano bars which are set in lovely open air surroundings enabling you to enjoy a drink under the moonlight. Fancy something a little different then try your hand at Black Jack or roulette in one of the casinos followed by a great in house cabaret show. Menorca has some of the best outdoor markets where you can buy the freshest local produce at very reasonable prices, leather goods and pottery are also particularly good and make great souvenirs for your family and friends.
The island also has some good modern stores where you can go on a days shopping spree and pick up some nice fashion wear if you feel like treating yourself, most resorts offer a good choice of shops for everything you could possibly need.
