The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of coastline on the south side of the Sorrentine Peninsula of Italy. It extends form Positano in the west to Vietri sul Mare in the east. The town of Salerno is the main and closest town to Amalfi Coast.

This Coast is well known for its scenic beauty, towns, and rugged terrain. The Amalfi Coast was featured in Positano in 1953 by Joan Steinbeck an American writer. The 6th century seen the first mention of Amalfi, and it soon acquired importance as a maritime power. The main trader of grain of its neighbors, salt from Sarfinia and even timber for the gold dinars minted in Egypt and Syria in order to buy the silks of the Byzantine empire.

Amalfi Coast food and wine is a major player in day to day life as across all of Italy. The local cuisine is largely Neapolitan with the main goal being freshness due to the regions fertile ideal climate for growing citrus fruits, oranges and lemons including olives and vines. Some well recommended restaurants are Marina Grande, Torre del Saracino, De Gemma, La Caravella and Acqua Pazza to name but a few. If you are looking for the nightlife experience that you would expect from Rome, Venice and other parts of Italy this is not the case this vacation destination is not home to dance clubs.

The nightlife in this part of the country consists of bars, pubs and restaurants playing music and serving drinks until the early hours of the morning. There is still a lot of nightlife here just a different experience. Some recommended places to look out for are Bar Fuel Q8, Sal de Riso, Mamma Mia, and Norman’s Bar to name but a few. The area is home to many different activities to entertain holiday makers.

Amalfi is steeped in history within architecture, historic sites, and museums. Also provided are guided tours such as Herculaneum Guide, Pompeii Guide, and Sorrento Guide. If you are interested in exploring the wonders of history through out the recommended time to visit Amalfi is said to be Spring and Autumn as there will be less people and prices may have dropped from peak season prices. In regards to traveling around car hire is one option if you wish to have your own comforts but the public transport has a lot to be said for it with a constant flow of bus services to get you from one place to another.
