Portugal shares its coastline and many of its cultures with Spain. It was a strictly religious country (Roman Catholic) until the 70s when even divorce was forbidden. One of Portugal biggest exports is Port, a fortified wine which is used here in homes to welcome guests, even the Parish Priest.

Portugal is respected for its regional art, ceramics being the most common. Beautiful embroidered bedspreads can be seen being made in Museum workshops. Portugal has hot dry summers and very mild winters, and temperatures can feel cooler due to the refreshing sea breezes. The best time to travel to Portugal is spring and autumn.
