The Maldives are made up of 1192 coral islands of which only 200 are inhabited. The Maldives are situated in the Indian ocean just North of the equator, which accounts for, its hot climate. Dhevehi is the main language spoken which derives from an ancient Asian language which is a combination of Arabic, Hindi, and English words.

The Maldives are popular with sports enthusiasts offering diving, snorkelling and windsurfing schools. Motorised sports are avoided in some parts as locals wish to maintain a peaceful ambience. The Maldives offer a mouth watering cuisine from age-old recipes which can be purchased from many quaint beach shacks. Preparations of fish and exotic shellfish are of a particular delight.
